Rush F.A.Q.

Why AKPsi?

As one of three business fraternities on campus, AKPsi offers much more than just balanced professional and social development. Our openness to all majors allows anyone, not just business majors to learn and develop their interest in business. After all, business majors are not the only people out there in the business world.

What is rush?

Rush is a two week period in which events are held for prospective members to learn about our fraternity and for the fraternity to learn about its future members. Events include info-night, social night, professional night, as well as interviews and other individual evaluations. At the end of this period applicants will be evaluated and bids will be distributed.

What kind of people does AKPsi look for?

Simply put, there is not one type of person that AKPsi looks for. In terms of our expectations, they are no different from any professional organization; we expect prospective members to be highly motivated in their endeavors and be open towards others in both work and life. Every individual that is given a bid earns it based on individual merits, not adherence to a cliché image. We look for potential just as much as present qualities.

Do you have to attend all events in order to qualify for membership?

While not a requirement, it is highly recommended that prospective members attend as many events as possible. It is difficult to get to thoroughly know the many attendees in two weeks so every moment in which we can get to interact with a particular person makes for a much more accurate decision process. Quality time leads to quality decisions that result in quality members.

Are there formal qualifications for membership?

There is a minimum of attending one event (info-night, professional, social), two mandatory interviews, a rush application, and grades from at least one semester at UC Berkeley (extension qualifies).

If I do not get a bid the first time can I rush again?

Rushing multiple times is allowed and even encouraged if one truly wants to join AKPsi. There is absolutely no penalty for coming another semester. In fact many members in our fraternity have rushed multiple times.

What is pledging like?

The pledge process is a time in which pledges are challenged to push themselves to their limits and grow as a result. The experience in this period is unique and varies with each person. Despite this there is one common thread, those who complete the process will have participated in a learning experience unlike anything else offered anywhere.
